  • Osteoarthritis is very common, 50% of all cats present with clinical signs and more than 90% of cats older than 12 will show radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis.

  • Osteoarthritis can be found in cats as young as two years old.

  • Osteoarthritis is the most commonly diagnosed form of degenerative joint disease, implying damage to the appendicular and axial skeletal systems.

  • Osteoarthritis can present as hesitation to jump up or down, reduced mobility, hesitation to use steps, decreased grooming, and sensitivity to petting or touching.

  • Nutraceuticals, diets, weight reduction (if indicated), environmental modification, exercise, and physical therapy can all assist with treating osteoarthritis.

Our friends at Zoetis have been working on a new medication to help with osteoarthritis! This medication is called Solensia and is slated to release late in 2022.

  • Solensia is a once a month injectable monoclonal antibody therapy for osteoarthritis control.

  • 77% of cat owners reported improvements in osteoarthritis related pain when treated once a month for 3 months!

  • Solensia was well tolerated in field studies that included cats with IRIS stage 1 or 2 renal disease
